5 years ago, I was in a band on the road full time, touring this beautiful country of ours playing shows for really great fans.
10 years ago, I was in a garage writing songs with a band in hopes of going on the road and writing hit songs that would be heard by everyone.
15 years ago, I was writing songs with a writing partner and performing at churches, open mic nights, and coffee houses.
20 years ago, I walked into a Guitar Center with $2,000 I had saved for months and purchased a Roland Keyboard which I still have to this day.
25 years ago, I sat in a friend's truck and at the end of a Keith Green Song, I decided, I want to play piano like him.
30 years ago, my Mother sat me in the front row at church directly in front of the drummer, where I sat for years watching him play and learning how to play without ever owning a drumset.

Today, I sit in my home studio working on a worship album, which will be my 7th solo album release.

God has not only used music to enhance my life, but to lead me to the places i've gone. My love of music, ability to write songs, and passion for capturing a musical moment, are nothing less than gifts from God. He is the reason I play piano. He is the reason I play drums. He is the reason I got to see this entire country playing music. He is the reason I play music today, and will continue to play music for the rest of my life.

My dog Henry is like many other dogs in many ways. He doesn't understand why he has to be on a leash, he doesn't quite understand why he can't walk in the street. He can be trained to ring a bell to go outside when nature calls, and he can sit, lay down, and shake hands for treats. But beyond that he is not very trainable. He couldn't possibly understand how the house we live in was built, or how food makes its way into our house every week and into his bowl. He just accepts it while lying in my wife's lap of luxury. We treat him very well. Even when we are upset at him for doing something he shouldn't have, like eat a hamburger left in the backseat of the car that was supposed to be my lunch, or bark at regular people walking in front of our house on a quiet evening. Even after doing these things, we punish him in certain ways, which he doesn't understand, and he couldn't possibly understand why five minutes later, we are petting him again.

The thing is we understand so much more than Henry does, and we would do anything to help him. Last year he had surgery on his knee because he couldn't bare weight on it because of a torn ligament. We take him on walks because we know he loves to walk and smell things, and experience what should be his natural environment. We understand why these things are good for him, and why certain things are bad for him, and luckily he's in our care so he is as safe as we can make him. He does have a free will to make choices that are either good or bad. We can't force him to make a decision. We can just train him, discipline him, shower him with love and affection, and hope that he settles in to that love and affection and makes the best choices he can with the limited knowledge he has.

God's infinite wisdom is the thing that we can't fathom. We couldn't possibly understand why he allows us to go through certain struggles or experience certain successes. Sometimes we don't understand why he might want us to stay away from something that he considers Sin or Wrong, while we might try to find a justification or a reason it might be okay. God trains us and showers us with love and affection but we have a free will and a knowledge that is infintely smaller than his. Just as Henry trusts us for his sustainence and his comfort, we need to trust God for our very existence, our next breath, our next meal, etc. We couldn't possibly understand how God could be upset with us for something we've done and five minutes later allow us back into his graces. Humility is something I need to excercise because I realize that I couldn't fathom God's mind in a billion years. All the things in my personal life and in this world I can't fix, understand, or comprehend, are left up to God's judgement, justice, wisdom, Omnicience, Omnipresence, and most importantly, his Grace. Thank God for his grace, his Son, and his willingness to love us, watch us play, learn, live, grow, and be. He is not a tyrant, nor is he a commander. He is a King who loves his children and treats them with the Love that only the Creator of all things could. Thank you God for being so much more than I can ever be.

If you happen to have my last album, which was acoustic based, and generally somber because of my mood, which was based on losing a relationship, leaving a band, and moving across the country. My life has changed for the better since, and my new album reflects that a great deal. It is much more upbeat, hopeful, inspirational and has drums, guitars, bass, and good, solid rhythms and an overall Pop Rock feel. If you go check it out, download it and write a review on Itunes if you would. I will be placing album previews on YouTube along with a few music videos i'll be producing to promote the album so look for stuff on YouTube and find me on Facebook and say hello. My links are to the right of my blog posts. God bless.
Just got a job at Nepo Productions. Check us out for all your video services, anywhere in the world. Also, just finished mixing my second studio album, fifth album altogether. I'm very excited, my first record was very acoustic, and this album is more upbeat, hopeful, and has a lot of drums, bass, and guitar. Its called "Intersections". My first album was called "Brand New Road". I'm trying to maintain a theme throughout my recording career. The next project is a rock project that I'm very excited to begin. It'll be a challenge. But in the meantime, please go to Itunes and preview Intersections and let me know what you think, buy if you like it and let your friends know. Also, I'm redesigning my website and its coming along well. You know, if you're an independent musician, songwriter, and you need to promote yourself and have all that a major artist has in way of websites, networks, etc, it is truly something you can do yourself. If I can do it, anyone can. Just take the time to make what you do great and give attention to learning new things, like mixing, engineering, website design, etc. These are all things you can do. Believe in yourself.
Recording Software is so great.....

I have used REAPER now to do my first four albums, and I am working on my fifth. I will put some technical info below, but for me, REAPER is the best. I have used ProTools, Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, Etc. And as I've used REAPER, I love it more and more.

http://www.reaper.fm/

It is so user-friendly. It is very easy to maneuver through and is very inexpensive. You can download the entire version of the program for 30 days, no limitations, and then when you decide to purchase, because you WILL decide to purchase it, it is totally worth the price. In fact, I would've paid three times the amount for this program, which is merely a download, no disc, no installation of many discs, just downloads straight to your computer. It comes with a ton of full Plugin effects, and it is truly making my music sound better and better. With each update, they offer new features based on their users suggestions in forums and emails. This company has truly created an amazing recording software that can help you and I and anyone make their own amazing sounding music right in their own home studio. No, I don't work for REAPER, and No, I'm not getting commission for promoting them. They are getting my blessing as a home recording Do It Yourself Artist, because they have not only stepped up to the plate to create something great, but they keep making it great day in and day out. So go check it out. I will be doing a lot more blog posts and videos right here about recording and I will solely be using REAPER. So, go check out their site, read what they have to offer, and find out if they are right for you. I say they are, but you can go make sure for yourself.
Yes, though I was on the computer most of the episodes or waiting to flip to an alternate channel during commercials, I actually saw enough of it to understand that this guy, Brad, who was on the show for a season before, rejected both girls at the end of that show, which I thought was pretty bad ass. He was "totally open to falling in love" and finding the love of his life. So, I was hoping that he'd pull a repeat and reject both girls again. Or another cool ending would be if both girls rejected him in some sort of twisted revenge scheme. I did enjoy making fun of these girls who so incredibly ready to fall for a guy they barely even know. I also learned that one of the girls' occupation was a "Manscaper". I turned to my fiance and said "what's a Manscaper?" She said, well, its a girl who instead of landscaping, manscapes, and it hit me, she shaves men for a living. And I was like, how did this girl get on this show?! That is tasteless and tacky, and this show tries to be utterly classy with the house, the roses, the beautiful people, the scenery, etc. So, here I sat for the final episode of this show and though I was on the computer, I was a little nervous for these two girls. My fiance read earlier in the season, a spoiler alert that said the girl he chose was Chantel. So, we, sitting here on the couch, gasped when he rejected her for a beautiful girl named Emily. The truth is I'm an incredible sap and kind of enjoyed the show even though its a totally girly show. Although, when he proposed to Emily, I loved the very huge lettering inside the ring box, Neal Lane. Ladies and Gentlemen, go out there and get a Neal Lane diamond. ABC's gotta pay the bills somehow, right? Alright, now on to the next show, I hope there's another season of I Wanna Work for Diddy. I miss that show. :)
So, men, if you love the girl you're with, do something like watch a season of The Bachelor with them, cause in some weird way, it'll make her a little happier, or is it sappier.Steven Kristopherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17243574907982457257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3167981089425100488.post-91380152869242948912011-03-07T17:57:00.001-06:002011-03-07T17:59:01.898-06:00Gnomeo and Juliet Movie ReviewI went to see this with my friends' kids and it was a fun movie. I must tell you first that i've always had a bit of an obsession with gnomes, for some reason, whenever I see them, they always make me smile. Most of my friends who hear that think i'm weird, and most of them think that gnomes are going to come to life and kill you in your sleep. Nothing could be further from the truth, believe me. Anyway, I digress.....you would think because of this obsession of mine, I would automatically love the movie whether it was good or bad....not true. I watched this movie like I watch every other movie, with a critical eye, but still trying to enjoy it if its good. So, Gnomeo and Juliet was funny, it had a good story, and was cute in the tradition of "A Bug's Life" or Toy Story, but wasn't quite as good as those two. It had its moments though, like when Hulk Hogan narrated a lawnmower commercial, the gnomes race lawn mowers, so they needed a super mower to win the race, thus Hulk Hogan would narrate such a mower. Also, there was a bit of poking fun at Shakespeare's writing style, which I thought was funny. Some other highlights were a funny flamingo, a ninja scene, a reference to Disneyland's Tiki Tiki Room, and some funny pokes at the inanimacy of gnomes. But overall I would give the movie a strong B or 3 out of 5 stars. I would definitely suggest a matinee showing price for this one. The kids loved it and your kids will love it. For the record, I still have an obsession with gnomes, and collect them. :) You should too.Steven Kristopherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17243574907982457257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3167981089425100488.post-58609900688316155682011-03-06T17:53:00.000-06:002011-03-06T17:53:24.778-06:00Gettin' Married......

Since the proposal, we have a pastor, a venue, a dress, a suit, a photographer, a caterer, almost done with planning, still have a ways to go, but it isn't a horribly stressful thing like i've heard it can be. Had a man draw on me with chalk for the fitting of the suit, got it on sale, and Pam actually got teary-eyed when I was putting on my coat in the mirror, I guess it kind of hit her that we're close to being married....the odd thing is, she didn't tear up at her bridal dress fitting, but her bridesmaids tell me they did, even though she did. Also, time must be flying cause the men's store owner asked us, "how long have you been engaged?" I said, "about a month", and then Pam jumped in and said, "actually its been two months". Time flies when you're havin' fun right? Anyway, we are both very happy and excited to spend our lives together, even though we have developed the habit of going grocery shopping together for our respective residences, we still pay separately. Sometimes I offer to buy her bananas or a bottle of wine. She sometimes tries to sneak her food on my side of the grocery store line divider. That little rubber piece is very powerful. Anyway, i've gone off on a tangent, I must go. You all have a great week.
My new album will be released later this year. I am working hard on it as we speak, and am very excited about it. Its more of a pop/rock sounding album versus the acoustic pop sound my first album had. I hope you guys like it when its done.
Mark Wahlberg was fantastic, and Christian Bale was nothing short of amazing. He lost some weight to play a washed up boxer who is now a crack addict. Mark Wahlberg buffed up to play his brother who is an up and coming boxer, Micky Ward. It is based on a true story, sad, but hopeful and inspirational. I give this move my two thumbs up, and if you were worried about going to see it, now you can feel confident enough to pay the 9 dollars it costs. By the way, when did it become 9 bucks. I remember when it was 4.50 to go to the movies, of course, that was a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away. Anyway, i'll be sharing more movie reviews, more blogs etc. Hope you guys enjoy them. God bless.
Here is the list:

Citizen Kane, (which is supposed to be ahead of its time)
Casablanca
Gone With the Wind
Field of Dreams (I know, I live in Iowa now, I will see it)
Varsity Blues (my friend Jerrad says I "have to see that one", not sure if i'm missing out on too much)
Harry Potter, (I've never seen any of the films, nor read the books)
O Brother Where Art Thou (which I own and have for some time, but never have watched it)
I've got like 150 movies and have watched many of them many many times, but truly
need to get out to see these films that i've missed out on. Any recommendations on films I may have never seen. Movies that are your favorites, that you think everyone should see.Steven Kristopherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17243574907982457257noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3167981089425100488.post-2558664461303244142010-01-23T19:23:00.001-06:002010-01-23T19:23:47.566-06:00This is a brand new song, New Album for Lady AntebellumJust a little taste of what hopefully will be a great Country/Pop album.
